About Latvia

Situated on the Eastern Shore of the Baltic Sea, Latvia is a small country in Northern Europe. Having regained its independence from the Soviet Union in 1991, Latvia has rebuilt itself so that it is now a destination that is increasing in popularity as it has much to offer.

The Capital City Riga; is the hub of Latvia, outside of the Capital; Riga is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage City because of its history and architecture that has influences from a number of countries as well as the middle Ages.

Aside from the tantalizing pull of Riga its Capital City, where fabulous architecture and a pumping nightlife meet, visitors can step out of that and embark on their own little adventure by exploring the historic villages, nature parks and beautiful forests that lie close to its shores. The Country has a sense of going back in time, with a landscape that has a sense of being undiscovered. The summer months have more hours of daylight than darkness, with the sun setting beyond midnight, which means that the winter months are long and dark. However Latvians take this in their stride and in the summer months there is a real sense of energy and life, they make the most out of the outdoors.
